I am a Sinologist who has enjoyed a 35+ year career focused on Business Development, Marketing, and Cross-Cultural Communications in Asia, and within Asian ‘diaspora’ communities around the world.
In 1982 as a Cornell University student majoring in Chinese Studies, I was part of the ‘first wave’ of American undergraduates to study as an exchange student for a full-year in the People’s Republic of China following the establishment of diplomatic relations between the United States and China. After receiving my MA in East Asian Studies from Yale in 1985, I returned to China to live there for almost a decade working in senior Business Development, Strategy, Sales, and Marketing positions for American, European, and Middle Eastern multinational companies across a broad range of industrial and consumer industries.
I subsequently served for 17 years as Executive Vice President and Managing Director for the top-ranked Asian Multicultural Marketing agency in North America, leading the development of brand strategy and communications for Fortune-500 clients within the burgeoning Chinese immigrant communities across the United States and Canada.
As a widely-recognized authority on international and cross-cultural business development, marketing, and communications, I have been heavily published and quoted in both offline and online media in the USA and abroad, including The New York Times, The Huffington Post, Bloomberg, Le Monde, The South China Morning Post, and a very wide range of other news, business, and industry-specific trade outlets.
I am completely fluent in both spoken and written Chinese (in addition to French and Hebrew), and also hold an MBA from Columbia University Business School.
